How do you restore my photos?

First we scan your original picture using a high-quality professional image scanner and then we retouch or restore the digital copy of your photo using photo-editing software.  When the restoration process is complete, we store the image onto a archival-quality CD for you.

What kind of restorations can you do?

Depending on your requirements and the condition of your original picture, we can repair cracks and tears, clean dirt and specks, sharpen and lighten originals.  We can also recreate (to a certain extent) missing details in your photos, correct faded or shifted colours, colorize black and white originals or turn colour originals into a beautiful black and white, sepia, or hand-colored picture.

What can't you restore?

We cannot restore pictures that are completely out of focus because too much detail has already been lost in the photo. Small pictures cannot be enlarged too much without losing too much image quality. If your picture has missing elements, we can only restore it to a certain extent, but if you have a similar second photo that shows extra details, please include it.

Will my originals be altered in any way?

No, we do not make any alterations to your original. It will be returned to you in the same condition that we received it.

When will I receive my restoration?

The usual turnaround time is 5 to 7 working days from the time we receive your original photo/image and deposit. Express services are also available at an additional cost.

Where does my photo go once you receive it?

Your photo NEVER leaves our premises under any circumstances.  Once we have scanned your photo into our system, it is safeguarded until the restoration process is complete.

Tell me more about the prints you produce.

Because all of our work is done on a computer system using digital files, rather than using a traditional darkroom with processing chemicals, we print our pictures using professional Fuji Crystal Archive Supreme paper.  We can output your photo's in virtually any size print from wallet sizes photo's to large 12" x 16" prints.

Properly cared for and mounted behind glass or in a protective acid free sleeve, our prints will last more than 100 years without fading or discoloring.

How do I protect my prints?

Properly taking care of your precious photo's will ensure their long life.  Here are several tips you can use to help you to protect your investment:

1.  Never display your photos where they can be exposed to sunlight.  Harsh light and UV are major causes of faded photos.

2.  Wash your hands before handling your pictures.  Oils from your skin or food will cause damage to your print, even if the initial effects are not noticed.

3. Protect your prints behind a frame or on a photo album (using acid-free sheets).

4.  Display or store your photo's in a spot with low humidity and average temperatures.  Humidity and heat will cause damage to your prints.

5.  Store copies of your photos for future use.  Request our CD-Archiving option on your next order so that your photo's can be copied to CD for many, many years to come.

Every restoration job requires significant investment of time and effort to bring back the beauty of the original photograph. The deposit is a common requirement among all leading photo restoration houses.
